Kannada activists attack theatre showing Hindi movie Saturday, October 9 2004 18:35 Hrs (IST)
Bangalore:
Activists of pro-Kannada organisation "Kannada Rakshana Vedike" today (Oct 9, 2004) allegedly damaged a multiplex in Bangalore showing Hindi film "Dhoom" in defiance of a seven-week moratorium on release of non-Kannada films, police said.
A cameraman of a Kannada television channel and a photographer for a local English daily covering the protest by the "Vedike" were also assaulted, causing injuries to them, police said.
Police said the activists who broke windowpanes of the multiplex in East Bangalore for defying the moratorium imposed by the Kannada film industry, later vented their anger on the journalists.
A reporter for a television channel who was on the spot however said the security personnel and the staff of the multiplex assaulted them and a complaint had been lodged with the police in this regard.
The police are yet to arrest the protesters who escaped from the scene after pelting stones and the extent of damage caused to the multiplex is yet to be ascertained.
