NDFB threatens to reconsider unilateral ceasefire Sunday, October 10 2004 14:51 Hrs (IST)
Guwahati:
The National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) has threatened to reconsider its unilateral ceasefire offer from Oct 15 if the Centre and Assam Government failed to respond by then.
An e-mail, claimed to have been sent by the NDFB media spokesman, S Sarjarang, to some local media last night (Oct 9, 2004), said that both the Centre and Assam should respond to its offer, failing which it would reconsider its ceasefire decision.
The banned organisation also asked the Governments to immediately halt all anti-insurgency operations directed against it.
In another significant development, the former chairman of the surrendered Bodo Liberation Tigers (BLT) and now chief of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Hagrama Mohilary, said that the BTC should be involved in any peace talks between the NDFB and Government, as it is a constitutional body.
Welcoming the NDFB offer, Mohilary wanted the Government to also respond positively.
The Centre had signed a Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) with the BLT on Feb 2, 2004, last year for the outfit to subsequently surrender and form the BTC in the Bodo areas.
