Glass pieces in Mirinda; company asked to pay Rs 5000 Sunday, October 10 2004 16:15 Hrs (IST)

The Madurai district consumer redressal forum in Madurai has directed soft drink company Pepsi India Limited and its agent to pay a compensation of Rs 5000 to a consumer who found 'glass pieces' in a bottle of 'Mirinda'-a soft drink of the company.
The consumer, Subbiah, in his complaint, said he had purchased two bottles of 'Mirinda' from a coffee bar at Samayanallur near Madurai on June 10, 2001. However, he was shocked to find glass pieces in one of the bottles.
When he complained to the coffee Bar owner, the latter asked him to contact the manufacturer or the agent.
He then filed a case against the company and its agent, seeking a compensation of Rs 4.5 lakh and Rs 10,000 towards expenses.
The Consumer court judge, S Kanakasabhapathy last evening (Oct 8, 2004)
directed the company to pay Rs 5,000 as compensation for causing anguish and shock to the consumer and Rs 1,000 towards court expenses.
