Six militants, two intruders killed in Kashmir

Srinagar: Six militants, including two intruders, were among eight persons killed and a security personnel injured in Jammu and Kashmir where ultras kidnapped a civilian since last evening (Oct 9, 2004), a police spokesman said today (Oct 10, 2004).

The two infiltrators were killed in Rajouri district during last night, the spokesman said.

He said a group of militants trying to sneak into Indian Territory via Naini gap Kalal border in Rajouri were challenged by security forces and in the ensuing gunfight two infiltrators were killed. Two AK rifles were recovered from them, he added.

In another incident, militants attacked a joint search party of police and security forces at Dhagar Sarola under police station Bani in Kathua district last evening, he said, adding security forces retaliated killing one ultra and recovered an Insaus rifle with two magazines and 14 rounds from him.

He said a militant was killed and a security personnel was injured in an encounter at Kote Kalimasta in Udhampur district yesterday.

Two militants, one them identified as Hafiz Fayaz Ahmed alias Usama of Pakistan, were killed in a gunbattle with security forces at Rangwar-Chowkibal in Kupwara district yesterday, he said, adding two AK rifles, their four magazines and two hand grenades were recovered from them.

The spokesman said militants shot dead one Sarajdin at Phalgam-Sikdi under police station Chatroo in Doda district last night.

Militants also brutally killed 52-year-old Ghulam Mohiuddin Naik by slitting his throat at Dedwan-Paristan at Gulwari top sector of Banihal in Doda district yesterday, he said.

The spokesman said militants abducted one Asif Ahmed from his house at Awantipora in Pulwama district of south Kashmir last night.

Security forces recovered a pistol, its two magazines, 13 rounds, 7 AK magazines and 328 rounds from a militant hideout in forest area of Shumnag in Kupwara district last evening, he added.
