Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Gegong Apang is all set to be elected as the leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP), which is likely to meet on Oct 13, 2004 party sources said in New Delhi today (Oct 11, 2004).
"Though five more results are to come, Congress has already secured a majority and Gegong Apang is likely to be the Chief Minister", top sources told PTI.
The Congress Legislature party is likely to meet in Itanagar on Oct 13, 2004 to elect its leader.
A CLP meeting can't be convened earlier due to heavy rains and legislatures have to travel long distances to reach the State capital, they said.
Apang today won from Tuting-Yingkiong constituency defeating his BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) rival Ojing Komboh by a margin of 4632 votes.
Buoyed by the outcome of the Arunachal Assembly polls, Congress said it was a part of the "continuing victories" for the party under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi, which began on May 13 in Lok Sabha polls.
"We are happy with the outcome of the assembly results in Arunachal Pradesh. This is part of a continuing victories of the party from 13th May, 2004, in Lok Sabha polls through Arunachal Pradesh and on to Maharashtra," Party spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi told PTI.
The results also underscored the fact that Congress was the only all India party with a significant presence in every part of the country, he said.
