One more Godhra accused arrested, total reaches 101 Monday, October 11 2004 14:51 Hrs (IST)
Ahmedabad:
One more accused in Godhra train carnage was arrested from a village near Godhra town in the wee hours today (Oct 11, 2004), a senior police official said in Ahmedabad.
Acting on specific information, the sleuths of Special Investigating Team (SIT) probing the train carnage nabbed the accused Siraj Bala from the village, Special IG (Vadodara range) Rakesh Asthana, who heads the SIT said by phone.
With Bala's arrest, the total number of persons arrested for their role in the carnage has reached 101 while 30 are still absconding, Asthana said.
Of the 30 absconders, seven are members of the 'core group' that actually set ablaze the S-6 coach of the Sabarmati Express coming Ayodhya on February 27, 2002, wherein 59 Ram sevaks were burnt to death.
"Bala was one of those rickshaw drivers who had transported petrol from the petrol pump to Aman guest house, where the conspiracy to set the coach on fire was hatched on February 26 night," the SIT chief added.
