15 chargesheets filed by CBI in 48 fake stamp cases Tuesday, October 12 2004 20:26 Hrs (IST)

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed 15 chargesheets, including four against prime accused Abdul Karim Telgi, in the 48 fake stamp cases which were handed over to the agency by Supreme Court in March this year.
The Central Bureau of Investigation found that 222 persons were accused in 27 of the cases in which the involvement of Telgi and his gang had come to light, a CBI spokesman said in New Delhi today (Oct 12, 2004).
Another 194 persons were accused in the remaining 21 cases where the involvement of non-Telgi gangs had been noticed, he said.
CBI had arrested 11 absconders after taking over investigation of the cases, which were spread across 11 States.
Besides, the investigating agency had taken into police custody 35 persons, including Telgi, the spokesman said.
Other prominent accused in CBI custody were Deputy Inspector General of CID Chennai Mohd Ali, Chennai Deputy Superintendent of Police S Shankar, LIC Administrative Officer L Sadhu, Raman Bholanth Dwivedi, M A Hafiz and Daniel, all important members of Telgi's gang, Anil Narayandas Shah, Sohail Khan, Abdul Guffar Mujahid, Ashfaq, S Krishna Murthy and G V Kannan.
The chargesheets included cases relating to sale of fake special adhesive stamps, murder of an employee of Telgi in Mumbai, sale of fake foreign bills, insurance policy, stamps and share transfer stamps.
