Opposition is unemployed and frustrated: Cong Tuesday, October 12 2004 22:04 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi:
Commenting on yesterday's (Oct 11, 2004) decision by some Opposition leaders including NDA (National Democratic Alliance) convener George Fernandes and former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar to open a new front against Gandhi, party spokesman Abhishek Singhvi told reporters in New Delhi that they were "frustrated and restless" as they were "unemployed".
Pressed by the media to name the gang, he said they were Fernandes, Jaya Jaitley, Subramanian Swamy and Chandra Shekhar. There were some others also in the game of "destabilisation of politics", Singhvi said but did not identify them.
"These tipplers and topplers" who had conspired against Rajiv Gandhi were now after the UPA Government, he charged adding that they had forgotten the lessons of history as to what happened to the gang of four in China.
Stating that an "idle mind" is devil's workshop, he said, "Several elements in the opposition have exhibited their irresponsibility, frustration and vendetta by indulging in one-upmanship of destabilising the UPA Government."
They were using different means including "astrology" to bring down the Government which, Singhvi said, was providing "free entertainment" to the people.
"We need to thank the gang of four for providing us free entertainment through spurious and superficial attempts to change the Government by their wishful thinking," he said.
