New Delhi: An estimated 55 to 60 percent of the electorate cast votes in Maharashtra Assembly elections, the Election Commission in New Delhi said today (Oct 13, 2004).

"The turn out is expected to be between 55 and 60 percent," Election Commissioner A N Jha told reporters in New Delhi.

He said barring the killing of two persons in Mainpuri Parliamentary and one in Atrauli Vidhan Sabha constituencies in Uttar Pradesh, elections in Maharashtra as well as by-polls to three Lok Sabha and 39 Assembly seats across 16 States were by and large peaceful.
