2 min speeches won't win votes: Thackeray to Sonia
Wednesday, October 13 2004 12:54 Hrs (IST)

Mumbai: Without naming Congress president Sonia Gandhi, the Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray today (Oct 13, 2004) criticised her recent "road show" in Mumbai and exhorted voters to exercise their right to ballot and dislodge the Congress-led DF (Democratic Front) Government in Maharashtra.

"You cannot win hearts of people and get votes by making two minute long speeches," the Sena chief said in the party mouthpiece "Saamna" in Mumbai.

Asking the people of the State to vote for Sena-BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party), he said it was their responsibility to "unfurl the saffron flag atop Mantralaya by giving a clear mandate to the saffron combine".

Thackeray also cautioned his party's polling agents to be alert to prevent attempts of bogus voting.
