Godhra victim adds rape charge to her complaint Friday, October 15 2004 16:20 Hrs (IST)
Ahmedabad:
A post-Godhra communal riots victim from Rajkot district who recently wrote to the Chief Justice of India (CJI) regarding reopening of her case has now alleged that she was gang raped by violent crowd that killed her husband and two others on February 28, 2002.
The victim also alleged that police did not register the names of the accused persons and ill-treated her when she had approached them after the incident.
"The victim, Naseembano Chauhan, approached us yesterday (Oct 14, 2004) and added the allegation of rape against a mob of 10 persons along with her original complaint. We are investigating it thoroughly and will make arrests at the appropriate time," Rajkot city police commissioner Sanjay Shrivastav told sources in Ahmedabad.
Chauhan claimed that she was ill treated by three police officers, including a woman, when she had approached them, narrated the incident and also gave names of the eight accused persons.
The riot victim said police did not register the names of the accused persons and drove her away.
Chauhan, whose case was closed by the Rajkot police in July 2002, revived her hope for justice after she wrote to the CJI in September this year.
