Govt ready for talks with all extremists groups: Patil
Friday, October 15 2004 22:41 Hrs (IST)

Maneswar (Haryana): Government today (Oct 15, 2004) said it was ready to talk to all extremists groups to remove any misunderstanding and would endeavour to do "justice" to any aggrieved section.

"There are several ways to solve the problems plaguing our country. One is to talk to all groups and if someone feels economic and social justice have not been done, then steps have to be taken in this regard," Home Minister Shivraj Patil told reporters at the training ground of National Security Guards (NSG) in Maneswar.

Asked whether the recent announcement for ceasefire by the National Democratic Front of Bodoland would lead to peace talks with the Centre, he said, "If they want to talk to us, we are ready."

"But first they have to talk to the State Government and at the moment they are making full preparations for that," Patil said.

About the talks between Andhra Pradesh Government and the Peoples' War Group (PWG), Patil said he was not in a position to comment without knowing the full facts as the parleys have begun only today.

Asked about reports that PWG and Maoist Communist Centre (MCC) had proposed to talk to the Government together, Patil said, "It may mean both are ready for the peace process, which is good." But it also meant that if they were not satisfied with the talks, then things could be difficult, he said.

Patil witnessed several anti-terrorism demonstrations of NSG and inaugurated a life-size aeroplane model for anti-hijacking training.

"Even if no overt war is on, a lot of low-intensity conflicts are going on which needs intervention of forces like NSG to be trained," he said.

Asked about the possibility of talks with Hurriyat Conference, Patil said, "We are always ready for talks."
