Ammunitions in scrap: Govt gets tough on scrap imports
Friday, October 15 2004 18:52 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Government today (Oct 15, 2004) made "pre-shipment inspection certificate" mandatory for all types of imported scrap, be it shredded or unshredded, in the wake of a number of incidents of explosives being found in the imported scrap.

"All scrap coming into the country will have to carry a pre-shipment inspection certificate. The shipping companies transporting the scrap will have to ensure that there is a pre-inspection certificate before loading the scrap shipment," Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath told reporters in New Delhi.
