Sunday, October 17 2004 15:22 Hrs (IST)

Ahmedabad: A local court in Ahmedabad has received a unusual plea from an accused who recently wrote to a senior judge seeking permission to commit suicide.

In his application to city sessions court judge Sonia Gokani, the accused undertrial Ashwin Shah said he wanted permission to commit suicide as he was frustrated with his failing health.

Shah, lodged in the Sabarmati central jail also claimed in his application that he suffered from heart ailments and needed to undergo a bypass surgery, as he had not got bail for 21 months since his arrest.

Shah was arrested for various cheating and fraud cases committed in the city. His plea will come up for hearing on October 19.

This is the second such application that the same court has received in recent times.

A Godhra train carnage accused person sought court's permission in September to be granted bail to fulfill his sexual desires with his wife.

The court heard his plea but rejected it.
