Five militants killed in two encounters in Jammu

Srinagar: Five militants were killed in two separate encounters in Jammu and Kashmir, a Defence spokesman said today (Oct 17, 2004).

On specific information that militants were hiding in Rajwad forest area in frontier district of Kupwara, troops launched a search operation.

Security forces challenged the hiding militants and in the ensuing gunbattle, four militants were killed, the spokesman said.

In another encounter in Mahipura area in Anantnag district, one militant was killed.

The spokesman said the encounter was going on in both places.
