Laloo's long tenure leads him to Limca Records!
Sunday, October 17 2004 15:39 Hrs (IST)

Patna: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president and Railway Minister Laloo Prasad has got a place in the prestigious Limca Book of Records that registered his name for the distinction of being the longest serving president of a political party in the country.

Prasad was handed over the certificate to this effect by the Limca Book of Records officials in Patna last week, sources close to the Railway Minister told today (Oct 17, 2004).

Prasad is serving as president of RJD ever since 1997, when the party was formed in the month of July. He was re-elected national president of the party last year for the third time. The tenure of president ship in RJD is of three years.

Unlike the constitution of most other parties, which restricts a person to stay as president for not more than two terms, there is no such limitation for president's post in the RJD's constitution.

RJD leaders were excited by the 'honour' given to their national president by the Limca Book of Records.

State party president and Bihar Minister Abdul Bari Siddiqui told that the party workers have full faith in the leadership of Prasad who had been championing the cause of poor, downtrodden and minorities.

The party is climbing on top under his leadership as could be seen by results of last Lok Sabha election, he added.

Minister of State for Energy and Public Relation Department Shyam Razak also expressed happiness over the event and said, "It's a matter of pride not only for the party-men, but for every citizen of Bihar."
