The crucial meeting of the Legislature wing of the NCP (Nationalist Congress Party), which emerged as the single largest party by bagging 71 seats, will be held in Mumbai tomorrow (Oct 18, 2004).
The legislature party meeting of NCP will be held at 3 pm at the party headquarter in south Mumbai, the NCP State unit general secretary Gurunath Kulkarni told sources in Mumbai.
The Central observers, Tariq Anwar, D P Tripathi and Praful Patel, will be present at the meeting, which is likely to elect the new party leader in the State legislature.
Asked about the NCP's claim for the Chief-ministership, the party general secretary said the issue will be discussed at the meeting.
Meanwhile, the NCP sources indicated that they are not willing to let go their claim for the top executive post in the State after emerging as the single largest party of the alliance.
The names of State unit NCP chief R R Patil, Sharad Pawar's nephew Ajit Pawar, Vijaysinh Mohite-Patil and Chhagan Bhujbal are being discussed in the party circles for the top post. But it is for the NCP's central leadership to decide, Patil said.
