Newly elected legislators of the Congress party will meet today (Oct 18, 2004) on the issue of ongoing tangle between the Congress and the NCP (Nationalist Congress Party) over issue of Chief Ministership.
The meeting to be held at Gandhi Bhavan in South Mumbai will begin at 11 am and will be attended by AICC (All India Congress Committee) general secretary and in-charge for Maharashtra Digvijay Singh, AICC general secretary Margaret Alva, MPCC (Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee) chief Prabha Rau and other senior leaders of the party in the State.
The meeting, besides paying condolences to the family members of Govindrao Wanzari, the Congress legislator from South Nagpur, who died yesterday (Oct 17, 2004), will also seek opinion of the elected representatives of the Congress on the issue of Chief Ministership, party sources said.
"After paying condolences, we will seek opinion of party legislators and the same will be conveyed to the party leadership when I reach Delhi later in the day," Digvijay Singh told sources in Mumbai.
He further said the issue of Chief Ministership will be decided by the top leaders of the Congress and the NCP at Delhi and Central Congress leaders Pranab Mukherjee and Ghulam Nabi Azad will arrive in Mumbai to supervise formation of a new Government, once the issue is settled at Delhi.
