Land reform is the key issue in AP Govt-naxal talks
Monday, October 18 2004 10:47 Hrs (IST)

Hyderabad: The naxalites brought to the fore the land issue and listed out the agriculture land gifted to various corporate houses and "lack of sincerity" in implementing land reforms during the talks with Andhra Pradesh Government on the third day.

The Government on its part assured that the surplus land issue along with the other demands will be discussed in the Cabinet meeting tomorrow (Oct 18, 2004) before resuming talks.

"We proposed to set up a committee to identify the surplus and undistributed land in endowments, works, agriculture and other categories," Home Minister K Jana Reddy said after the talks.

Naxal leader Ramakrishna said they have given a list of agriculture lands surrounding the city, which was occupied by big business houses denying livelihood to the natives besides other big holdings across the State.

The marathon eight-hour session mainly focussed on alienation of farmers from land to favour corporate houses, Ramakrishna said.

Real estate dealers, construction giants, multinational companies and big business barons had driven away natives to expand their enterprise, Ramakrishna alleged.
