Govt in M'rashtra to be formed in 2-3 days: Governor Tuesday, October 19 2004 17:49 Hrs (IST)
Mumbai:
Expressing confidence that the new Government in Maharashtra will be formed in next two to three days, Governor Mohammed Fazal today (Oct 19, 2004) said he might not seek letter of support from Congress-NCP (Nationalist Congress Party) coalition to establish on paper their majority in the 288-member State assembly.
"Perhaps I will not ask letter of support from Congress-NCP as no other party has staked claim to form the Government", Fazal told reporters at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai.
The Congress-NCP alliance has bagged 141 seats in the recently concluded assembly polls and are short of four to reach the halfway mark of 145 in the lower House.
The NCP has already claimed that it has support of 11 of the 19 independents elected in the just-concluded Assembly polls.
To a query, the Governor said both Congress and NCP have furnished details about their pre-poll and post-poll alliances on the last day of deadline yesterday (Oct 18, 2004).
A day ahead of the polling, Fazal had asked all political parties to furnish details in this regard.
The Opposition Shiv Sena and BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) have not provided details about alliances, he replied when asked.
