New Zealand PM to hold talks with Indian leaders Tuesday, October 19 2004 14:31 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi:
New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clarke will hold discussions with Indian leaders in New Delhi tomorrow (Oct 20, 2004) on a wide range of important bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual concern.
After a ceremonial reception at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan tomorrow, she will call on President A P J Abdul Kalam and hold extensive parleys with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
The developments in Iraq, Afghanistan, the West Asia crisis and UN reforms are among issues that are expected to figure during the parleys.
The New Zealand Premier will also have meetings with External Affairs Minister K Natwar Singh and Leader of Opposition L K Advani.
On a five-day visit, Clarke, accompanied by her husband Peter Davis, arrived in New Delhi on October 16 and has since travelled to Agra, Bangalore and Mumbai.
A business delegation, representatives of Indian diaspora and senior officials are accompanying Clarke. Her visit is the first in almost two decades of a New Zealand Prime Minister to India, after David Lange's trip in 1985.
The External Affairs Ministry in New Delhi said the visit would be a timely opportunity for the leaders of the two countries to exchange views and perspectives on regional as well as bilateral issues of mutual interest and discuss ways to take forward the relationship into a 21st century partnership.
