Rahul meets second-rung leaders in his apolitical trip Thursday, October 21 2004 19:39 Hrs (IST)
Bangalore:
After a meeting with IT bigwigs, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi today (Oct 21, 2004) heard a select group of his party second-line State leaders who spoke of party drawbacks and steps needed to tone up the organisational functioning.
A day after he met Information Technology leaders who spoke of their booming sector and reportedly poured out woes on infrastructural problems in Bangalore, Gandhi interacted with about 35 state party-men at a 5-star hotel for 90 minutes.
"We did not talk much about politics. I have come here on a non-political trip", Gandhi repeatedly stressed seeking to steer clear of questions about politics.
Gandhi, who was asked if he heard complaints about the Congress-JDS (Janata Dal-Secular) coalition Government's functioning in Karnataka, said the interaction was a "non political meeting. Anyway nothing major (was discussed)."
Asked if the Congress debacle in the May Assembly polls in Karnataka was discussed, he said, "they have their own opinions" and explained it to him, including how the BSP (Bahujan Samaj Party) had cut into the party's vote share.
Asked about his meeting with IT leaders yesterday and if there were complaints about infrastructural bottlenecks in Bangalore, he said Bangalore was growing and "there is pressure on infrastructure".
"I am no one to suggest to the State Government on how to do their job", he said, when asked if he would tell the Karnataka Government steps it should take to improve matters.
To a question, he said he had "no requirements" from IT majors specifically for his parliamentary constituency Amethi.
There were IT schools in Amethi and he discussed how to develop them, he said.
