Tamil group threatens blasts at railway stations Saturday, October 23 2004 18:35 Hrs (IST)
Dharmapuri (TN):
An organisation purporting to champion Tamil cause has reportedly threatened to plant bombs at railway stations in Tamil Nadu if the officials who killed Veerappan and his associate Sethukuli Govindan were not immediately suspended from service.
Tamil Liberation Army, which came into prominence at the time of abduction of Kannada actor Rajkumar by Veerappan four years back, has sent letters to Dharmapuri Railway Station Master and District Collector warning that bombs would be planted in Salem, Coimbatore, Erode and Tiruchirappalli railway stations within 35 days if their demand was not complied with.
The letters also threatened to plant bombs at collectorates and municipal offices in Erode and Dharmapuri districts.
The sub-inspector (Railway Police), Nallusamy, has registered a case under Section 507 in this regard.
After receipt of the letters, the railways have tightened security and were monitoring the tracks, he told.
