'Sangh again trying to make Ram its election agent' Monday, October 25 2004 22:40 Hrs (IST)
Ayodhya:
Launching a scathing attack on the Sangh Parivar outfits, the chief of the apex body of 'Akharas' today (Oct 25, 2004) accused the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh)-VHP (Vishwa Hindu Parishad)-BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) combine of "again trying to make Ram its election agent to attain power".
"Saints and Mahants have the responsibility to oppose misuse of Lord Ram's name by the RSS-VHP-BJP combine which is again trying to make Ram its election agent to attain power doing nothing for the development of Ayodhya and construction of the Ram Temple here," All India Akhara Parishad president Mahant Gyan Das told reporters in Ayodhya.
Gyan Das, a prominent Mahant of the Hanumangarhi Temple in Ayodhya, alleged that appointment of former Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani as its President showed that the BJP had no option but to return to the hardline Hindutva for its very existence.
Soon after Advani's assumption (as BJP chief), "communal outfits, including Hindu Yuva Vahini, engineered communal clashes" during immersion of Durga idols in four districts of Eastern Uttar Pradesh and VHP-RSS combine was now planning a 'Ram Barat' programme from Ayodhya to Janakpuram from December 8 next," he alleged.
"The BJP has not learnt any lesson from its defeat in the Lok Sabha and Maharashtra Assembly elections and its leaders have no ideology," he alleged.
Gyan Das was also critical of Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray's comment on Congress MP Rahul Gandhi that he could arrange some "desi girl" for him to marry.
