SC notice to Centre and States on Disability Act
Monday, October 25 2004 12:18 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: The Supreme Court today (Oct 25, 2004) issued notices to the Centre and all the States on a petition seeking implementation of the Disability Act which provided for preferential allotment of residential plots to disabled persons.

The petitioner Salil Chaturvedi, a disabled person, alleged that none of the States was implementing the provisions of 'The Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995' which deals with formulation of schemes in favour of persons with disabilities for preferential allotment of land at concessional rates for residential purposes.
