Indo-Rus to add energy security dimension to ties Tuesday, October 26 2004 18:05 Hrs (IST)
Moscow:
With India eyeing Siberian and Caspian hydrocarbon resources to meet its growing energy requirements, New Delhi and Moscow are poised to add energy security dimension to their strategic partnership.
"A number of MoUs on energy cooperation between India and Russia are to be signed before or during Russian President Vladimir Putin's India visit from December 3 to 5 to add the energy security dimension to our bilateral strategic partnership," Petroleum Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar in Moscow said at the end of his four-day visit to Russia.
"I have requested Russia to ensure India's energy security in the coming decades as it helped India in preserving territorial integrity in first 50 years of Independence," Aiyar told Indian mediapersons after meeting Russian Minister of Industries and Energy, Viktor Khristenko.
An Indo-Russia energy seminar to be attended by Russian oil majors is to be held in New Delhi on December 6, the next day after the conclusion of Russian President Vladimir Putin's India visit.
"This seminar will provide a forum similar to the US-Russian energy dialogue," Aiyar said.
Khristenko also welcomed the idea of India and Russia co-sponsoring the international energy forum on Central and North Asian (Rursia) oil producers and Asian buyers of oil to create a stable, secure and sustained Asian oil market.
