Two arrested in Godhra carnage case in Ahmedabad Wednesday, October 27 2004 12:22 Hrs (IST)
Ahmedabad:
Two persons, wanted in Godhra train carnage, were arrested by police in Ahmedabad today (Oct 27, 2004), official sources said.
Bilal Abdul Badam and Rafiq Ahmed Kadir were arrested by the anti-dacoity squad of city police from Satpole area of Ahmedabad in the early hours, sources added.
Till date, 104 of the total 131 accused persons have been arrested in connection with the train carnage that triggered one of the worst-ever communal frenzy across Gujarat, while
27 are still absconding.
Eleven of the train carnage accused are out on bail and two are in juvenile courts.
However, the Special Investigating Team (SIT) probing the case got a jolt last week when one of the prime accused, Salim Zarda escaped from police escort from his own home. He is still absconding.
Fifty-nine karsevaks returning from Ayodhya were killed when the S-6 coach of the Sabarmati Express was torched outside the Godhra railway station on February 27, 2002.
