Omigoosh! Prisoners will turn hangmen in Bihar
Wednesday, October 27 2004 18:35 Hrs (IST)

Patna: Bihar Government is contemplating imparting training to some prisoners languishing within the four walls of different jails in the State for executing the job of hangmen, according to the State Jail Minister Raghvendra Pratap Singh.

Singh said today (Oct 26, 2004) that around 65 inmates languishing in jails had already been convicted and were facing capital punishment and the appeals of a few of them had already been dismissed by the apex court.

''In view of the circumstances, we will require hangmen for execution,'' he said.

''A proposal is under our active consideration to recruit some prisoners suitable for the job and we will train them accordingly," he added.
