Maharashtra deadlock: PM meets Pawar, Mukherjee
Wednesday, October 27 2004 16:21 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is believed to have held discussions with NCP (Nationalist Congress Party) leader Sharad Pawar and Pranab Mukherjee, chief mediator on behalf of Congress, in a bid to resolve the ongoing stalemate over Maharashtra Chief Ministership.

Pawar, who did not attend today's meetings of the Union Cabinet and the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, drove to the South Block office of the Prime Minister after they were over.

Mukherjee, who left South Block after the meetings, was called back to the Prime Minister's Office for a discussion on Maharashtra developments, informed sources said.

Details of what transpired in the meeting were not immediately available.
