Thursday, October 28 2004 17:46 Hrs (IST)

Thane (Maha): Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) today (Oct 28, 2004) said Parle Bisleri cannot re-start manufacturing its bottled water till a joint inspection by its officials along with those of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

"Till a joint inspection by FDA, BMC and BIS is completed to confirm if the company was complying with the required standards, it cannot start manufacturing the product," FDA Joint Commissioner (Mumbai) H D Salunke told reporters in Thane.

Parle Bisleri was not complying with standards and hence it was ordered to stop manufacturing bottled water, he said. The company cannot start its activities till the microbial test was complete for the number of days specified, he said.

A joint inspection will be undertaken by BIS, FDA and BMC before restarting the unit, Salunke added.
