Musharraf has taken a big risk on JK: V P Singh
Thursday, October 28 2004 14:54 Hrs (IST)

Mumbai: Former Prime Minister V P Singh today (Oct 28, 2004) said Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf's new formulation to resolve the Kashmir issue "indicates that neighbouring country's rhetoric on plebiscite and LoC (Line of Control) has become old now."

Referring to Musharraf's suggestion of demilitarisation of some "regions" of Kashmir on both sides of Line of Control, Singh told reporters today that "it (the suggestion) is significant and important thing."

India should take up the suggestion of demilitarisation during its future negotiations with the neighbouring nation to resolve the Kashmir issue, Singh said.

Asked whether the Pakistani President's new formulation should be believed, Singh, evading a direct reply, said, "It indicates a significant shift in Pakistan's posture and Musharraf has taken a big risk."
