Censor board clears Jha's film on JP 'without a cut' Saturday, October 30 2004 14:07 Hrs (IST)
Mumbai:
Controversial documentary film on Loknayak Jaiprakash Narayan, whose telecast was withheld by Prasar Bharti, has received a censor board certificate "without a single cut", according to filmmaker Prakash Jha.
"We received a censor board certificate yesterday. The board has cleared my film without a single cut," Jha told in Mumbai today (Oct 30, 2004).
The certificate clearly shows that the film has been based on life of Jaiprakash and did not adhered to any ideological preferences, Jha said.
He said he would now be dashing a letter to Prasar Bharti informing them about the censor board certificate.
"Now that the censor board has approved the film I do not think there should be any reason why the film cannot be aired by Prasar Bharti," he said.
"We had applied for censor board certificate in order to help us enter the film at various festivals," he said, adding "personally I am glad that the film was viewed in total objectivity."
Doordarshan had withheld the telecast of the film after Prasar Bharati raised objections to certain "one-sided" views shown in it pertaining to the Emergency, which the late socialist leader had vehemently opposed.
The movie was to be shown by the public broadcaster on Narayan's birth anniversary on October 11.
Twelve suggestions were given to Jha to improve it. Jha had declined to carry out modifications terming the entire episode "as an attempt to distort the truth".
