Hurriyat leaders want to visit Pak ahead of talks Saturday, October 30 2004 11:38 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi:
The Hurriyat Conference has agreed for resumption of third round of talks with the Centre provided its leaders were allowed to go to Pakistan before the parleys.
"We know the resolution of the Kashmir issue can only be found through dialogue. We are not shying away from that. But before the third round of talks we need to go to Pakistan as this will further enhance the possibility of having a fruitful dialogue," Mirwaiz Umer Farooq told over phone from Srinagar.
The statement comes at a time when the Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil was planning to visit the State next week.
Justifying Hurriyat leaders visit to Pakistan, Mirwaiz, who had a secret meeting with Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf at Amsterdam in September, said the amalgam was determined to go ahead with the talks with the Centre.
"We know that Pakistan is also a party to the dispute and there is a section of Kashmiri leadership staying in PoK (Pakistan occupied Kashmir). They also need to be consulted before we come to the dialogue table," he said.
He said the proposals suggested by Musharraf were somewhat similar to Hurriyat's roadmap for peace.
