Singapore, India can forge 'even closer' partnership Saturday, October 30 2004 16:45 Hrs (IST)
Bangalore:
Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Dr Tony Tan today (Oct 30, 2004) said he saw great potential for Singapore and India to forge "even closer" partnership than now between each other.
"We can achieve much more together," he said, inaugurating "Inventor", the fifth multi-tenanted building at the Information Technology Park Limited (ITPL) at Whitefield on Bangalore outskirts.
ITPL, a global technology hub housing over 100 companies employing over 15,000 people, is a joint venture between Tata Industries, the investment arm of the Tata Group, and a Singapore consortium led by Ascendas and Karnataka Government.
Tony noted that Singapore was host to 7,000 multinational companies and 1,400 Indian firms.
He said apart from manufacturing and services, entertainment was another area for greater cooperation between India and Singapore.
With the continuing strengthening of ties between India and Singapore, he hoped, there would be greater flow of ideas, technologies and investments from both sides.
Tony said ITPL was testimony to the fact that both India and Singapore could work to create a "win-win partnership".
Describing ITPL as a "towering icon" of cooperation between Singapore and India promoting the growth of research, technology commercialisation and knowledge-based enterprise, he said, "let it continue to be one of our leading landmarks" of further cooperation into the future.
