Aziz to Musharraf's rescue amid Opp flak
Monday, November 1 2004 09:38 Hrs (IST)

Islamabad: With Pervez Musharraf's new formulation on solving the Kashmir issue with India under flak from domestic Opposition groups, Pakistan Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz yesterday (Oct 31, 2004) termed as "hypothetical" the Pakistan President's proposal and claimed Islamabad's stand on the issue remains unchanged.

"Pakistan's fundamental position on Kashmir remains the same and it desires a solution according to the wishes of the Kashmiri people," Aziz said during an Iftar dinner he hosted for the media in Islamabad.

Referring to the formula suggested by Musharraf on October 25 to divide Kashmir into seven different regions, demilitarise them and change their status, Aziz said, "President has spoken about a hypothetical situation."

He said the President had floated the ideas for discussion "so that there can be a debate and out-of-the-box thinking on it."
