11 held for abortive attempt on Omar Abdullah's life Monday, November 1 2004 14:21 Hrs (IST)

Eleven people, including four Hizbul Mujahideen militants, allegedly involved in the assassination of National Conference leader Safdar Ali Beig and the attempt on the life of party chief Omar Abdullah, have been arrested, official sources said in Srinagar today (Nov 1, 2004).
The arrests were made over the past couple of days, they said.
Refusing to give details, the sources said, the arrested people were being interrogated.
Beig was shot dead by militants outside his Sarnal residence on October 21 and the National Conference president had a narrow escape when an IED exploded during the former's fourth day ceremony, the sources said.
The arrested persons include four Hizbul Mujahideen militants, they said.
