India, Pak need to show boldness to resolve JK issue
Tuesday, November 2 2004 21:30 Hrs (IST)

Islamabad: Observing that it was looking forward to a speedy movement to settle the Kashmir issue with India, Pakistan today (Nov 2, 2004) said the two countries would have to demonstrate boldness, flexibility and courage to resolve it.

Pakistan is looking forward to a speedy movement to resolve the Kashmir issue, but the two countries will have to show flexibility, boldness and courage to reach an acceptable solution, Foreign Office spokesman Masood Khan told reporters in Islamabad.

Ruling out any unilateral concessions from Pakistan, he said both sides will have to create new environment by not sticking to their stated positions.

Replying to a question, Khan said the resolution of the issue should be acceptable to both India and Pakistan and the Kashmiri people.

He said Kashmiris will have to be associated in this process sooner or later to move forward in the right direction.

To a question on "options" being explored by Pakistan, he said Islamabad wanted Kashmiris to play a pro-active role in this regard.

"When we are looking forward on various options the people of Kashmir and Pakistan should play a pro-active role in the process to achieve a desirable solution," he said.

He said it is the responsibility of the people of Pakistan to explore options for the resolution of Kashmir issue because Islamabad wants an amicable resolution of the issue and "we have to work hard to achieve the goal."
