Panel set up to ensure 'flow of information' Tuesday, November 2 2004 17:51 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi:
A five-member Coordination Committee has been set to ensure "free flow of information" on Congress party and Government policies.
The Committee, constituted on the initiative of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi, includes Information and Broadcasting Minister S Jaipal Reddy, Minister of State in PMO, Prithviraj Chavan, AICC'S (All India Congress Committee) Media Chairperson Girija Vyas and its Secretary Tom Vadakkan and Prime Minister's Media Adviser Sanjay Barua.
Other ministers could attend the Committee's meetings depending on issues, party sources said adding the initiative was an outcome of the Prime Minister's meeting with the office bearers of the AICC's media department last week which suggested regular interaction with Government on information.
In the first meeting attended by the five members presided over by the Prime Minister, it was decided that the "activities, achievements and initiatives" taken by the Government were put in a proper perspective and context.
The Government side, they said, had hinted at major initiatives to come on Jammu and Kashmir and Northeast with particular reference to Manipur and Nagaland.
The party, on its side, assured the Government that as and when information on proposed initiatives were made available, it would use that in various party forums for propagation to people.
AICC had also requested the Government to make available information from various ministries, including those run by allies, on their developmental initiatives.
