America votes; Bush bullish and Kerry confident Wednesday, November 3 2004 10:12 Hrs (IST)
Washington:
In the deadlock Presidential election, Americans turned out in huge numbers to cast their votes after marathon campaigns ranging from war on terror and Iraq. The first election after Sept 11 attacks will also determine the response to Bush administration's stand on it.
As millions of voters get ready to give the country its new President, both the Democratic and Republican lawyers are gearing up legal strategies in case of a much speculated disputed result.
President George Bush wearing a tense look stated that he is confident of his victory. And his Democratic rival John Kerry too had no doubts with the vigour of his campaign against Bush.
The winner needs a majority of the 538 electoral votes that decide the Presidency and are awarded in separate, mostly winner-take-all, State contests.
