America votes: Bush celebrates as Kerry waits Wednesday, November 3 2004 17:56 Hrs (IST)
Washington:
The Bush camp started celebrations claiming victory in the just concluded Presidential Elections 2004 even as Kerry and his campaign staff waited for the ultimate outcome.
The final outcome largely depends after the counting ends at Ohio, the key State where Bush currently holds a slender margin of over 140,000 votes, while still around 250,000 provisional ballots are yet to be counted.
According to authorities in Ohio, counting of provisional ballots will not happen till after eleven days as per local laws.
Results of Iowa and New Mexico are also delayed. The delay in Iowa is due to the mechanical failure of counting machines along with complaints of fatigue from election staffers.
According to television reports, Andy Card, White House Chief of Staff, said that Bush campaign is convinced that the President has won re-election over Democratic Senator John Kerry.
Earlier, Democratic Vice-Presidential candidate John Edwards said, "We have waited four years and we would wait for another night."
As of now, Bush is projected to have won 254 Electoral College votes, while Kerry is projected to have won 252 votes.
With the final tally projections hanging in the air, it is wait and watch till then.
