Naxals put forward demands for release of constables

Raipur: The Naxalites today (Nov 4, 2004) claimed that they have kidnapped the two police constables of Chhattisgarh, who had been missing since last week, and has put forward seven demands for their release.

The CPI (Communist Party of India)- Maoist, South Bastar Divisional Committee, in a statement released to press, has revealed this, alleging that the State Government has 'not fulfilled' the demands made by them for the release of Kuakonda Station House Officer Prakash Soni last month.

The State Government has been given a deadline till today to fulfil the demands for the safe release of Head Constable Geetaprasad Banjare and Constable Khileswar Sahu.

Meanwhile, the Dantewada police has recovered a letter purportedly written by Banjare stating that he was fine and requested for withdrawal of CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) search operation in the area, police told PTI.

The two had gone missing on Friday night (Nov 1, 2004) from weekly market of Bhejji police Station, police said.

The demands of CPI (Maoist) ultras included, release of all tribals, who were arrested for having links with ultras, withdrawal of search operation by CRPF from the area, suspension of Sub-Divisional Police Officers of Dornapal and Konta, Arvind Kujur and D Ravishankar respectively, closing down of Errabor, Jangla and Nelasnar police stations of Dantewada district and re-starting of weekly market of Bastar region, the release said.

They have also demanded suspension of BSF (Border Security Force) personnel from Rajasthan, involved in an encounter near Kuttacheru village of Bhejji police station area during Lok Sabha election in which one Markam Hadma was killed and finally all demands should be met by November 4.
