No legislation on reservations in pvt sector: Govt Thursday, November 4 2004 17:51 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi:
The Government today (Nov 4, 2004) ruled out bringing in any legislation for reservation of jobs in the private sector and said a national dialogue with all political parties, industry bodies and private sector organisations would be held to address the issue of employment generation.
"There will be no legislation for reservation of jobs," Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Meira Kumar said at the 'Editors' Conference' in New Delhi.
"We would hold discussions with the industry chambers and the private sector on the issue soon," she said, adding that a national dialogue would also be initiated with all the political parties to see how best the private sector could meet the job demand.
She said the ministry was already in talks with individuals and representatives of various trade and industry associations for the purpose.
As part of its affirmative action, the ministry has reviewed its schemes and ensured that the NGOs funded by it implemented the reservation policy properly, she said.
The ministry is at present supporting about 2700 NGOs and Rs 233 crore has been earmarked for the current fiscal against the Rs 207 crore released last year.
The ministry would spend Rs 336 crore on spreading literacy among people belonging to the Scheduled Castes.
