Petrol price hike: BJP announces nationwide stir Saturday, November 6 2004 17:52 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi:
Attacking the Congress-led Government for its decision of raising prices of petroleum products, BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) today (Nov 6, 2004) announced launching of a nationwide agitation against it.
BJP general secretary Shivraj Singh Chauhan told protests against the Government decision will be held up to district level across the country.
Protests were held at Delhi and Jharkhand today, he said, adding party vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi was injured in such a demonstration in the national capital.
Naqvi, who was injured when water cannon used by police hit him in the face, was taken to RML Hospital from where he was discharged after medical aid, Chauhan said.
Chauhan said the hike in petrol, diesel and LPG was unwarranted as prices of these commodities in international market are falling.
Noting that it was the fourth hike in five months of UPA (United Progressive Alliance) Government, the BJP leader said the Congress-led Government was feeding "slow poison" to people by raising prices of petro products at a time when inflation is already shooting up.
