Attack on BSF camp; one militant and a jawan killed

Srinagar: One militant and a jawan were killed and three security personnel injured when ultras made an abortive bid to storm a BSF (Border Security Force) camp at Sopore in Baramullah district of Jammu and Kashmir in the wee hours today (Nov 6, 2004).

At least two militants attempted to force their entry into a BSF camp near Fruit Mandi in Sopore at around 0430 hrs (IST) by lobbing grenades and opening indiscriminate fire, BSF DIG Srinivas said.

The Army personnel retaliated and prevented the militants from entering the camp, Srinivas said adding in the exchange of fire one militant was killed, while three jawans sustained injuries.

The other militant escaped during the encounter, he said.
