'No wedding' say relatives and 103-yr-old ends life
Saturday, November 6 2004 12:02 Hrs (IST)

Siliguri: A 103 year-old man was found hanging at a bamboo clump in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district after his bid to find a bride for the 14th time was stated to have been thwarted by his family, police said in Siliguri today (Nov 6, 2004).

His body was recovered yesterday (Nov 5, 2004).

Police, quoting neighbours, said Pettu Muhammad, married 13 times, was unhappy with his family life and was looking to tie the knot again. But his move was resisted by his family members, including grandsons and daughters.

The neighbours also said Muhammad, the oldest person of Paschim-Magurmari village in Jalpaiguri district, a cattle broker by profession, was strong and active despite his age and would keep close contact with the cattle traders.

A neighbour reportedly told the police that Muhammad was upset with the intransigent attitude of his family.
