Rs 2,710 crore reimbursed by Centre to J-K under SRE Monday, November 8 2004 19:24 Hrs (IST)

The Centre has reimbursed a sum of Rs 2710.91 crore under security related expenditure (SRE) to Jammu and Kashmir in its fight against the menace of terrorism since 1989 to 2003.
For the current financial year, the Budget provision under SRE is 289 crore and Rs 160 crore for relief and rehabilitation.
Out of Rs 2710.91 crore, a sum of Rs 256.87 crore has been released for security works and related activities, Rs 999.43 crore for additional expenditure on police and Rs 207.96 crore for action plan related SRE, an official release said in Jammu.
A sum of Rs 580.6 crore was provided to the State as assistance to Kashmiri migrants, Rs 441.37 crore for welfare activities and Rs 224.63 crore for election related additional SRE, it said.
During the last financial year, the Centre released Rs 245.95 crore to JK Government towards additional expenditure on police, action plan SRE and election related security expenditure, it said adding similarly a sum of Rs144.99 crore was reimbursed to the State Government towards the relief and rehabilitation activities during 2003-04.
The Centre has been providing continuous financial support to the State Government apart from the normal centre assistance, the release said.
A special dispensation central assistance has been provided to JK not only to fund the State plan but also to cover its non-plan gap.
