WB BJP urges Advani for Bharat Bandh on fuel price hike
Tuesday, November 9 2004 21:18 Hrs (IST)

Kolkata: The BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) West Bengal unit today (Nov 9, 2004) urged its president L K Advani to consider calling a 'Bharat Bandh' in protest against the petro price hike by the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) Government.

"We have faxed a letter to Advani urging him to consider calling a 'Bharat Bandh' in protest against the UPA Government's anti-people policy," the BJP State General Secretary Rahul Sinha told newsmen in Kolkata.

To a question, if the BJP would support the Trinamool Congress sponsored Bangla Bandh on December 3, Sinha said that the BJP State unit would decide it at a meeting tomorrow (Nov 10, 2004) about its stand.

Criticising the Left parties, Sinha said that they were the main culprit behind the 'abnormal and unjustified' oil price hike as they had failed to prevent the UPA Government from taking the decision.

Sinha said that the UPA Government had hiked the prices of petrol, diesel and LPG in six months by Rs 6, Rs 5 and Rs 40 respectively against the hike of Rs 8, Rs 12 and Rs 20 respectively by the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) Government in 72 months.
