Can Seer be kept under house arrest? HC asks Govt

Chennai: Madras High Court today (Nov 12, 2004) directed the Public Prosecutor to find out from the Government whether it was agreeable to keep Kanchi Mutt seer Jayendra Saraswathi, arrested and remanded to judicial custody in a murder case, under house arrest instead of prison.

The direction was given by Justice R Balasubramanim, while hearing a bail application filed on behalf of the pontiff by senior advocate Subramaniam.

The Judge directed the Public Prosecutor to inform the court by 3 pm today about the Government's stand.
