Saturday, November 13 2004 13:28 Hrs (IST)

Chennai: The Madras High Court today (Nov 13, 2004) adjourned the hearing on the bail application of Sankaracharya of Kancheepuram, Jayendara Saraswathi, till Wednesday (Nov 17, 2004).

The Judge R Balasubramaniam issued the order after the Senior Counsel from Delhi Ram Jethmalani, appearing for Sankaracharya, sought time to file a detailed affidavit after meeting Jayendra.

Jethmalani said Sankaracharya was denied his fundamental right under Articles 21 and 22 of the constitution as he was not allowed to speak to his lawyers.

The judge pointed out that the allegation was not mentioned in the bail application and gave the counsels of Sankaracharya time to meet the seer.

He also directed the public prosecutor to accord all facilities to the lawyers for meeting Sankaracharya.
