Kanchi Seer arrest: BJP MLA evicted from TN House Wednesday, November 17 2004 14:20 Hrs (IST)

A BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) member of the Tamil Nadu Assembly, H Raja, was today (Nov 17, 2004) evicted from the House for "obstructing proceedings."
When Chief Minister Jayalalithaa was called by the Speaker K Kalimuthu to make a statement on the arrest of Kanchi Seer, Jayendra Saraswathi, BJP members vehemently protested the arrest and wanted the Government to release him immediately.
As the Chief Minister rose to make the statement, BJP members were on their feet, shouting slogans demanding that the Seer be released.
CPM (Communist Party of India- Marxist) members were also seen shouting counter slogans, the Speaker then asked all the members to resume their seats.
The Speaker warned Raja that he might be compelled to take action against him. Despite the warning, Raja and other BJP MLAs were seen shouting slogans.
The Speaker then ordered the watch and ward to evict Raja. As Raja was being led by the Marshall out of the House, other BJP MLAs, led by their legislature party leader K N Lakshmanan, staged a walkout.
